Technological Breakthroughs in Submarine Cables Promote Global Energy Interconnection
With the acceleration of the global energy interconnection process, submarine cables, as key facilities connecting offshore energy bases and onshore power grids, have attracted much attention for their technical level. Recently, the third-generation submarine cable independently developed by China was successfully applied in an offshore wind power project, marking that China's submarine cable technology has reached the world's leading level.
Compared with the first two generations of submarine cables, the third-generation submarine cables have achieved breakthroughs in multiple aspects.
1.In terms of corrosion resistance, a new type of corrosion-resistant alloy material is used, which can work stably in the seawater environment for more than 50 years, extending the service life by 20 years compared with traditional submarine cables.
2.In terms of transmission capacity, by optimizing the conductor structure and insulation materials, the transmission capacity has been increased by 30%, which can better meet the needs of large-scale offshore wind power transmission.
3.In terms of wind and wave resistance, a flexible structural design is adopted, which can withstand typhoons above level 12 and ensure stable operation in harsh marine environments.
It is understood that this submarine cable has been put into use in an offshore wind power project in China, and currently, it is operating in good condition with stable power transmission. The person in charge of the project said that the application of the third-generation submarine cable not only reduces the cost of offshore wind power transmission but also improves the reliability of power transmission, providing strong support for the large-scale development of China's offshore wind power industry.
Industry insiders believe that China's technological breakthroughs in submarine cables will further promote global energy interconnection.
