Cable Safety Cannot Be Ignored: Experts Teach You to Identify Hidden Hazards and Perform Maintenance
As high-temperature weather arrives in summer, safety accidents caused by issues such as cable overload and aging occur from time to time. To ensure the safety of residents' electricity use, experts from the power sector recently entered communities to carry out cable safety popularization activities, teaching people how to identify potential cable safety hazards and master daily maintenance methods.
Experts pointed out that there are mainly three types of common safety hazards in cables.
1.Cable aging, which is characterized by cracked and discolored outer sheaths, and exposed internal conductors. Such cables are prone to short circuits and fires when energized.
2.Cable overload. When multiple high-power electrical appliances are used simultaneously, the cable current exceeds the rated value, which will cause the temperature to rise and trigger a fire.
3.Cable corrosion. In humid, acidic or alkaline environments, the outer sheath of the cable is easily corroded, leading to a decrease in insulation performance and electrical leakage accidents.
In response to these hazards, experts have put forward specific maintenance suggestions.
1.Regularly inspect the appearance of the cable. If cracks or discoloration of the outer sheath are found, the cable should be replaced in a timely manner.
2.Use electrical appliances reasonably. Avoid using multiple high-power electrical appliances at the same time to prevent cable overload.
3.Keep the environment around the cable dry. Avoid the cable coming into contact with acidic or alkaline substances to reduce the risk of corrosion.
In addition, experts also reminded residents that if abnormal conditions such as electrical leakage or overheating of the cable are found, the power supply should be cut off immediately, and professional personnel should be contacted for maintenance. Do not handle the problem by yourself to avoid safety accidents. Through this popularization activity, residents have gained a deeper understanding of cable safety knowledge and expressed that they will strengthen the daily inspection and maintenance of cables at home.
